Community Quilt Project Reminder
To encourage a sense of community and creativity, our library is holding acommunity quilt project. The blocks will be assembled into a finished quilt thatwill be auctioned off in the Spring/Summer of 2025. The proceeds from theauction will benefit future programming at the Vinton Public Library. We hopethe project appeals to beginning quilters, experienced quilters, and everyonein between.
Garwood Woodcarvings on display at the Vinton Public Library
Our library is pleased to present a special display of wood carvings from local artist Tom Garwood. Stop into the library between now and mid-February to view several display pieces including the fox pictured below. Vinton native Tom Garwood has been carving for the past 35-40 years and is primarily self-taught. He is a member of the Cedar Valley Wood Carvers.
Snow-Fun Camp January 17th, 1:45pm-3:30pm
Snow-Fun Camp will be held on January 17th from 1:45 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Benton County Nature Center for a cost of $5 per youth,Snow-Fun Camp is a way for the kiddos to enjoy an afternoon full of snow-related fun at the Nature Center! Activities include playing in the snow, snow science and more! Snow-Fun Camp is for youth in 3rd-5th grade.
Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs) of WWII January 14, at the Library
Join us as we honor the Women Air Forces Service Pilots (WASPs) of WWII with Larry Ritland. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. as Larry Ritland shares his presentation titled "Honoring the Women Air Force Service Pilots of WWII."Since 2016 Larry Ritland, a Vietnam Veteran, has cycled thousands of miles to honor and remember other veterans that time has nearly forgotten.

Soil Health Workshop January 9th
There will be a free soil health workshop on January 9th from 9am to 12pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vinton discussing how to best manage cover crops and practically implement soil conservation practices. This is an event held by ISU Extension and the USDA-Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) an equal opportunity provider, employer, and lender.
